Our
Story

Barbells & Babes Photography began as a passion project in September 2015 and officially launched on December 26, 2016. Founded by professional photographer Adamaris Aponte-Cuadrado—who has been working in the field since 2012—the brand was born from a deep love for fitness, movement, and storytelling through imagery.

During its early years, Barbells & Babes Photography immersed itself in the functional fitness community, documenting the intensity, discipline, and spirit of the sport. Through continuous education, networking, and hands-on experience, the brand became a trusted presence at major events such as Heart Attack Fest, Death in the Mountain, Sector Games, Road to Revolution, Caribbean Wod Fest, Fitness Body Expo, IF3, and many more across Puerto Rico and beyond.

Over time, Barbells & Babes Photography has collaborated with leading fitness brands including Big Dawgs by OPEX Fitness, WodNDone, Savage Barbell, Born Primitive, Kill Cliff (PR), The Barbell Cartel, and others. The brand has also provided commercial photography and community management services to gyms such as CrossFit SJU, Aggressive Fitness, Caribbean Fitness Box, and Stay True Fitness, among others. What sets Barbells & Babes Photography apart is its resilience and consistency. As the only Puerto Rican woman leading a long-standing photography project dedicated to the CrossFit and functional fitness community, Adamaris has navigated an industry often led by male-dominated spaces—both in sports and photography. Her expertise, vision, and commitment have allowed the brand to not only endure but evolve through the changing landscape of the local fitness scene.

From the challenges of athlete migration and gym closures to the emergence of a new generation of competitors, Barbells & Babes Photography has remained a constant—documenting history as it unfolds, while helping rebuild and redefine the community it serves. This journey reflects a powerful truth: consistency is not only essential in sport, but in business and in life.

Beyond capturing moments, this project has paved the way for other creatives, opening doors and creating opportunities within the industry for future generations.
